Mid-Century Furniture

Considering Mid Century Furniture?

Are you in a place where you think that your home needs a brand new look?  When you think about Mid Century furniture, you are looking at a style that is both vintage and modern, both quirky and elegant, and there is a lot that can draw you to this type of furnishing.  Take some time and really consider what your choices are going to be.  This is a style that appeals to many people, and whether you choose to decorate with vintage furniture to seek out the designs of bold new designers who are finding the best of the era, there are countless possibilities.

When you are looking at Mid Century furniture, you'll find that the first thing that you should think about is bright.  The fifties were a time where everything was moving rapidly forward.  The post war years had left everyone with feelings of getting away from the past and looking to see what the future holds and this was reflected in the way the decorating schemes were put together.  After all, this was when there was a lot of emphasis in the house of tomorrow, and many designs take their hint from that.  Look at bright colors that are very clean.  The colors are quite bold and on the lighter end of the spectrum.

Another consideration to keep in mind when you are looking at Mid Century furniture is furniture that has a lot of gloss and shine.  Once again, the era was all about modern designs.  You'll see a lot of chrome and silvering in the furniture that you choose, especially when you are looking at anything in the dining area.  On the other hand, you'll find that more homely areas are encouraged to have a design scheme that is more warm than not.  Earth tones on your couches and chairs are ideal, and you'll find that finishings are often made in, a lovely to the touch, brass.

If you are considering decorating your home with Mid Century furniture, remember that one thing that makes it fun is going at least a little over the top.  Why restrict yourself to a coffee table that is square or circular when you can instead purchase one that has gorgeously asymmetrical lines?   There is something that can go a long way towards giving you that unique Mid Century modernist look is so very much a part of this era.

Remember that when you are decorating with Mid Century furniture that you do not necessarily need to let glamour go by the wayside.  After all, you were just as likely to see Grace Kelly on the screen as you were to see Lucille Ball, and when she wasn't in I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball was still pretty glamorous!  Look for ultra modern, ultra sleek pieces of furniture that will help you achieve the look that you are after.
