How to choose the right luxury lighting for each room

Achieving the optimum level of lighting tends to be overlooked unless you use a lighting designer. However, Juliette Thomas (Founder and Director of Juliette’s Interiors) ensures you can cover this with a few simple steps:

1. Confirm the purpose of the space. For example, if you are using the room as a home office, you will need more targeted lighting in order to work efficiently. In comparison, a bedroom or bathroom would need softer lighting.
2. Don’t forget to layer. The lighting itself is not the only thing to think about, but also where the light is distributed across the room. Think about ceiling lights, floor lamps, table lamps, spotlights, wall lights etc. Layering your lighting will give a more luxurious and inviting feel to the space, so play with sizes and textures to add depth.
3. Look at proportions. If you have high ceilings, opt for a dramatic pendant light or chandelier that is large enough to fill the space. Lighting that doesn’t fit the space will give the illusion of a smaller room.
4. Think about your natural light. If the room you’re designing has less natural light, make sure you appropriately light certain areas of the room.
