Former BIID President Diana Yakely Honoured

The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2016 includes Interior Designer Diana Yakely, former President of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID). This prestigious honour is in recognition for services to the interior design profession. Diana, a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers (FCSD) was President of the BIID for two terms.

Diana started up Yakely Associates in 1981. Since then she has won multiple national and international design awards in her thirty-five year career. She joined the BIID in 1983 and in 1994 they elected her to fellowship of the Institute. In 2003 she chaired the Institute’s CPD committee, and in 2004-5 chaired a joint BIID/RIBA committee.

In 2005 Diana served as President of the BIID for the first time, and she was given the BIID Award of Merit in 2008. Two years later in she 2010 co-authored the seminal BIID Interior Design Job Book. BIID made her President again in 2011 and the following year, the British Government commissioned her to showcase the best of British design during the London 2012 Olympics.

She continues to give regular university seminars and judges numerous interior design awards, and mentors young interior designers. We would like to congratulate Diana Yakely OBE and thank her for leading the way in the interior design profession.
