Wednesday Inspired Interiors: The Dark Side of Interior Design

Wednesday is back! Arguably as captivating as the storylines and characters are the gorgeously gothic interiors, so it was only fitting that we put together a collection of Wednesday inspired interiors. After the first half of series two left us on tenterhooks, the second half is now on Netflix, ready for us to devour like a werewolf during a full moon!

Inspired by Morticia’s moody makeover of the once fantastically floral Rotwood Cottage, join us as we explore the underworld of luxury design. Whether your vibe is fairytale ‘whimsigoth’, or queen of darkness ‘gothcore’, it’s time to embrace your dark side…

Haunting Hallways

Set the tone the moment someone enters your home with a haunting, high-end hallway. Nothing says gothic grandeur like an imposing chandelier. A candelabra style design immediately alludes to magic and mystery, and you can magnify the medieval theme even more by choosing smoked glass. For something more modern, swap flames for shades, and for added drama, pick a chandelier dripping with ruby red Swarovski® Crystals.

A black console table promotes a grand welcome, particularly when paired with a large, period mirror (an added bonus – you can double check your guests have a reflection before welcoming them into your home!)

What’s Lurking in the Lounge?

When darkness descends, even the supernatural need somewhere to socialise, and what better way to inject suspense than with a gothic statement sofa? For a true Wednesday inspired interior, an all-black option oozes sophistication, and promises to appeal to those preferring the monotone theme.

Alternatively, hauntingly rich reds and mystical purples keep the mood on-brief whilst introducing a little colour into the mix. Seating must, of course, be upholstered in the most luxurious fabrics, like velvet, worthy of a visit from the Addams.

When using your lounge for entertaining, you’ll need somewhere to house ghastly cocktails and spooky snacks, like Morticia’s not-so-tasty-looking cookies. Jet black coffee and side tables tuck nicely into the shadows and come in a range of options, from a more traditional style with curved detailing, to something bold and modern.

Whilst we appreciate darkness is a key component to any Wednesday-inspired decor, it’s not always practical. Layered lighting ensures the room never gets too bright and allows you to inject personality through unique designs and styles.

Dining in the Dark

It wouldn’t be an Addams-inspired family feast without a little drama at the dinner table. Most of us prefer to settle family affairs more amicably than a Wednesday versus Morticia style dual, making an intimate, sophisticated dining set an ideal choice to bring the family together in smaller spaces or for day-to-day dining.

If you’re catering to large groups of friends or extended family – including any weird uncles – then pick a banquet-worthy dining set

And, of course, a Wednesday inspired interior design wouldn’t be complete without plenty of candlelight.

Bring Order to the Office

Whether your working space is designed for solving crimes, or something a little less out of the ordinary, a gothic theme is the sophisticated, high-end choice for a home office.

Writing your own novel, Wednesday-style? Then, an opulent writing desk is non-negotiable. A bookshelf or display cabinet is a must too, to house any published works, ancient tomes and spell scrolls (as well as paperwork and your favourite books).

Batcave or Bedroom?

If you get mixed up in as much mayhem as Wednesday does, you’re going to need to retreat to a cave-like sanctuary to recover. A bed fit for an Addam is one that perfectly weaves together goth and glamour – think four poster drama and extravagant detailing.

For something less one dimensional, allow your Wednesday inspired interiors to become influenced by her roommate, Enid, by weaving in a little colour.

An ottoman or storage bench strategically placed beneath the window acts as a perch whilst you keep an eye out for any wrongdoings during stormy nights (it also doubles as a place to stash away any secret or important items).

Whilst Wednesday doesn’t have the most extensive or diverse wardrobe, most of us require a bit of bedroom storage. Whether you use it to house clothing, or as a second home for your pet ‘Thing’, is up to you…

Wednesday Inspired Interiors in Reality

Gothic interior design shouldn’t be reserved for haunted houses and Halloween. When designed by an expert, the effect can be one of luxury, grandeur and sophisticated elegance. Whether you’re after a dramatic new makeover, want to craft a bespoke item that nods to your alter ego, or would just like to add some gothic finishing touches to your home, the expert team at Juliettes are ready to bring your darkest decor desires to life.
